“Virgin Media complies with court orders but we strongly believe that tackling the issue of copyright infringement needs compelling legal alternatives, giving consumers access to great content at the right price, to help change consumer behaviour. “As a responsible ISP”, Virgin continued. We’re aware some groups are claiming the attacks are a result of the recent High Court order which requires ISPs to prevent access to The Pirate Bay. Speaking to The Register, they stated that “Our website,, has been the subject of denial of service attacks so we took the site offline for a short period of time. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers. Virgin’s statement on the attack continues the relatively mature stance they showed with their response to the high court ruling against the Bay. Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, St. “If you want to help start a tracker, arrange a manifestation, join or start a pirate party, teach your friends the art of bittorrent, set up a proxy, write your political representatives, develop a new p2p protocol, print some pro piracy posters and decorate your town with, support our promo bay artists or just be a nice person and give your mom a call to tell her you love her.” DDOS and blocks are both forms of censorship. “So don’t fight them using their ugly methods. Even if we strongly disagree with them and even if they hate us. We believe in the open and free internets, where anyone can express their views. We’d like to be clear about our view on this: “Seems like some random Anonymous groups have run a DDOS campaign against Virgin media and some other sites. Yesterday, TPB posted the following on their Facebook page: Interestingly, Anonymous haven’t received support from The Pirate Bay for their actions. TPB is the standard for tracking BitTorrent files and, although it has had its moments when it has been shut down, it always manages to rise back up, victorious. TPB boasts that it is free for your personal use and claims to also be uncensored. “#Anonymous have just taken down #VirginMedia website again”, they posted on Twitter, “because of their involvement in the #Censorship of The Pirate Bay.” You may remember that when fellow filesharing hub Megaupload was taken down earlier this year, Anonymous hacked a series of US government websites in protest. The Pirate Bay works by tracking files that can be downloaded using the BitTorrent protocol. Virgin were the first UK ISP to put a block on the Swedish website, and true to form, Anonymous were quick to take credit for taking their website. Hacking collective Anonymous have taken down Virgin Media’s website, in response to the recent ruling that forced Virgin and every other UK Internet Service Provider to block access to filesharing giants The Pirate Bay.
